Karen and Harvey moved to Paradise after spending four years in Los Angeles where Harvey received his dental degree from the University of Southern California. Their romance began at Taft Junior College in 1963 where Harvey was serving as Freshman Class President and Karen was the Chairman of the Social Affairs. During the next couple of years Harvey played football and baseball, worked 4-5 jobs, served as President of the Student Body, and maintained a grade point average high enough to be accepted into dental school without any upper division credits. Karen was his motivator and many dates were spent working at one of his jobs or studying.
Married in April 1965, they moved to LA in August 1965, he started dental school in September 1965, Brent, first son, was born in November 1966, Brian, second son, arrived March 1968, Harvey graduated and moved to Paradise in 1969. Harvey’s family loaned him enough money for a down payment on 5849 Almond Street and he opened his practice. In 1970, Blane, third son, joined the family; then Blair, fourth and final son, was born in 1973 and finally a girl, Brynn, in 1977.
Thirty eight years later, having been active in Little League Baseball, youth soccer, Boy Scouts, church and civic service, Harvey continues to provide cost effective, creative, quality, gentle dentistry. He is delighted to have Brent and Brynn’s husband, Jeremy Chatfield, practicing with him. Even today Harvey stills puts forth the effort to be the best, most up-to-date dentist in the area.
Harvey enjoys photography, water skiing, wake surfing, snow skiing, wood working, golf, and has maintained a fresh water aquarium for over 30 years. Karen enjoys the close proximity of 10 of their 14 grandchildren.
If asked, “When are you going to retire?” Harvey replies, “When I have to!”
Dr. Brent Ellis Parrott, the oldest of Dr. Harvey Parrott’s five children, spent most of his childhood right here in Paradise (we have yet to see where or when he will “grow up”), earned his Eagle Scout, graduated from Paradise High, went to Brigham Young University, served a two year mission in Spain, (while there he became fluent in Spanish and has kept it up) then earned his DDS degree from Creighton University School of Dentistry in Omaha Nebraska.
While in school Brent had three kids, Lauren (15), Tyler (died at 2 months -SIDS-), and Jacob (11). After graduating, Brent spent ten years practicing dentistry in the Phoenix Arizona area prior to moving back to Paradise to fulfil his long term dream of working with his father. While in Paradise Brent started his search to find a good wife and found a fantastic one on an online singles service. One catch, she was 1,326 miles away in Canada. Another catch, she had five kids.
Alexis and Brent were married in Feb 2004 and moved to the same street as the rest of the Parrott gang. Alexis proved once again how amazing she is by jumping in, with no previous experience, and learning to run the front office, helping patients with their appointments, insurance, and financial concerns. Brent loves being an excellent father and dentist and has taken some extra courses to learn how to do Invisalign®, implants, and gum surgery.
Brent loves being a dentist - especially cosmetic reconstructions - and is constantly taking continuing education classes to keep up on the latest information and techniques. When he is not in the office helping people with their dental needs and wants, he enjoys spending time with his family, water sports, serving the youth of his church, and being a computer nerd.
Dr. Chatfield grew up in Chico and was a well known athlete at Pleasant Valley High School. He loves playing basketball, tennis, water skiing and everything else that has to do with sports. He is famous and the proof is at Applebees. The next time you go there, when entering, look around and you may be able to find him in a few pictures.
After graduating from PV he had the privilege of living in Argentina for two years while serving as a missionary. During those two years he learned how to speak fluent Spanish as well as many other wonderful things to help him in his life. He occasionally has the opportunity to use that Spanish to communicate with some of his patients.
Upon returning home from his mission he attended Brigham Young University majoring in Micro-biology. He had the goal to become a dentist since he was about 12 years old so he knew exactly what he needed to study to get into dental school. Dr. Chatfield excelled at BYU, thus was accepted into Marquette School of Dentistry a year early. He loved BYU, but was ready to move on.
During the 3rd year of dental school Dr. Chatfield was lucky and married Dr. Harvey Parrott’s daughter, Brynn. He completed dental school in Milwaukee and they headed for beautiful Grants Pass, Oregon where he worked for three years for Southern Oregon Dental. During those three years he learned valuable lessons about being a great dentist and building his knowledge and skills preparing to enter Dr. Parrott’s practice.
It was time to move home to Paradise when a baby was on the way, and the office was ready for another dentist. They missed the wonderful friends in Grants Pass, but were excited to make new friends in Paradise and to be close to both families. In November beautiful daughter, McKell, was born. She has already been motorcycle riding, golfing, snow skiing and out on the lake. They can’t wait until summer when they can start teaching her to water ski.
Dr. Chatfield is an exceptional, caring dentist and is honored to work with an outstanding mentor, Dr. Harvey Parrott, and with you as patients.
